[#3] Feb 11: MLS keeping all accounts at apartment as Mama is paying her $5 a month; "my first salary". They have the hamper full of firewood sent every week on the ticket [train] to save money. (In the city firewood costs 25 cents for 6 logs.) Arthur is launched as a law student. [#4] Feb 27: MLS's activities include music lesson, play with orphans, Red Cross work, class on Current Events, Junior League Bible class, opera. [#5] Mar 6: Junior Dames Red Cross weekly meeting rolling bandages. [#9} Dec 11: Return address 375 Park Ave. - the Olins [#10] Dec 15. 375 Park Ave: At Mrs. Vanderbilt's, Kathleen Burke spoke on the Ambulance. Mrs. Vanderbilt said she had talked to Nummie more than to anyone else. "Julia Benkard always teases me because I neither smoke nor drink, and generally speaking, I am looked upon as a pure white lily from the country!" |
