Small light gray notebook with "August, 1914" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: August 1: Daisy returned from Miller’s where she has been for 2 days. / Gordon Hamersley took Arthur up to the Overlook Mt. House in the Stanley Steamer. Vey bad road above Meads. Left Rh. in 12:38 ferry & back at Wilderstein about 4:30. / Gordon H. with Mrs Lowrie took Daisy, a twin & R.B.S. out in the Brown Bettie in evening from 9 p.m. to 11:40. Visited Kingston Point & below Esopus Island. 2: Arthur took 2 of us in Stearns north to see foundations of Gordon H’s new house, then via Annandale, Pilgrim’s Prog. passing betw. Dr. Miller’s & Homestead, West of Burger Hill passed Eliz. Lynch house, Olin’s, Fisherman’s bridge & home at 7 p.m. 4: Princess Cecilie with some $11,000,000, arr’d at Bar Harbour at 6 this morning./ Home in 6:36. Found Mr. & Mrs. Tom Adams, baby, nurse had arrived yesterday. 5: Elizabeth Lynch came to lunch. Daisy & I walked with her as far as site of Dows’ burned barn in p.m./ Miss Babbitt a governess for the twins, arr’d. 7: Death of Pres. Wilson wife reported / Daisy, Mr & Mrs adams lunched at Elliz. Lynch’sl / Bessie & I executed deed Newark, see letter Olin, Clark & Phelps Aug. 6th./ Heard Katy-Dids 9: Mr & Mrs S.H. Olin came in p.m. for iced tea. 10: Mr & Mrs Tom Adams left at 9:20 for Flushing in their Hup with baby & nurse / Nummie arr’d at 6:01. He has been on Maine coast. 17: Daisy & I to town in 1:18. Nummie met us on arrival. Gave Daisy 40. She, Peg & Nummie sailed in Priscilla at 5:30. Nummie returns from Boston tomorrow. The 2 girls go on to Squam Lake to stay with the Frank Olmsteads./ Dinner at Raq. Club with H.E.M. & night at his home on 76th St. 19: Kath & Eliz lunched at the Zabriskie’s where Montgomery Langdon is staying 20: The pope died this morning. 21: To town in 9:23. At 1:30 took Sandy Hook boat at 42nd St West to Atlantic Highlands. Reached Pt. Pleasant at 4:22 where H.E.M. & Bowne were awaiting me. 22: H.E.M. & I to Buoy 85 in sailboat. Bathed from 12 to 1. Auto trip in p.m. with Grace & Harry. The girls are away. 23: Splendid bath 12 to 1. / Mr & Mrs [blank] Gilpin of Germantown came to lunch, etc. He is the elder bro. of Billie Gilpin / Gilpins stayed to dinner. 24: 9:30 train from Pt. Pleasant to Sandy Hook boat to N.Y. with H.E.M. / SS Albany from W. 42nd St. at 2 p.m./ Sold Packard chassis, 250. Gave Newman commis. on the sale, 25. 28: Pd. Tschudin family for dressmaking. / Wright installed an air chamber as a substitute for the stand pipe of the ram system. / Nummie brot home the repaired Hup top./ Twins’ governess Miss Babbit left.
