Small light gray notebook with "March, 1913" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: March 10: Laundry bill for my whole stay, 17.10; tip, 2. / Moving bike trunk to chez Mme. Rosat Br., 5 11: Had a currie supper (farewell) chez Reuss at 8:30. Very good. 12: Delightful evening with the Beauclerks. 13: 7:21 train to Montreux; 9:00 train to Paris. 14: At Tiffany & Co. bought a little 18 K gold net purse to hold 4 10 fr. pieces to give Peg [Montgomery] at Boul. Seine. In P.M. found her looking very well & very nicely situated. Nice little ground around the house. Walled in. / Cable to H.E.M. - Peg splendid. Shops could not get present. Sail tomorrow in France. / Cards to Dobbs, Anne Bicket, Marie Schiess. 15: Train started exactly on time 8:23. Arr. beside the France at noon. France got off a little late. Passed outside the breakwater at 2 P.M. / Rough but stars shining & moon. 16: I won the pool Gave 10. to smoking room boy. / Finished Parker's "A Romany of the Snows." / Ave. speed to noon 20.39. 17: Began "Au Coeur de la Yu" by P. de Couleviu 18: Swedish gymnasium for nearly an hour. Great perspiration! / Quite a gale from starboard bow after lunch / Filled out declaration for U. S. Custom house. 21: Good Friday / Bessie's birthday / We passed Nantucket at 7 A.M. / Sent Marconi to Bessie from anchor about 5 P.M., 17 fr. / Letter to Beauclerk; Card to Dobbs, Reuss, Miss Bicket / Cane to anchor at 4:14 somewhere near beginning Ambrose chan. [channel]. Steamers blowing all around us. Very heavy fog. Also damp. About 8 P.M.the fog lifted & we steamed to Quarantine for the night. 22: Doctor came on board at 6:30. Turned around & started north at 7:55. Oppos. Battery at 8:30. Carriage at 10 for N.Y.C. Nummie was on pier but he could not wait./ 12:40 train to Rh. Lunch on train. / Bettie & Daisy were in Packard to meet me. Poor Katharine is at school with measles. 26: Daisy & I took 12:38 train (some 1/2 hour late) to N.Y. Taxi to Penn. Stat. putting D. on 4:35 train to Bryn M. with friend on train. / Belmont 651. |
