Forty-seven letters from RBS's Aunt Phebe who enjoys RBS's visits and is always ready for more. She reports what she, Aunts Carrie and Eliza and daughter Grace are doing and inquires after Bessie and the children. Phebe wants to have her affairs settled and continues to ask for RBS's financial advice, but also has an account with Mr. Ely. [letter #1] undated. Requests that RBS send her the portrait of Washington this week as the hanging of other pictures will depend on where it is placed. [#6] Dec 21, 1891: Sends congratulations on the birth of "little Miss Suckley." She is glad Addie is with them. [#25] c.1895: Phebe is pleased to be a grandmother. Harrie [Henry Montgomery] keeps her informed every day [about Grace and the baby.] "As one dear spirit leaves us, another comes to fill the vacancy" but Phebe will always feel "your dear Aunt Carrie's absence." [#46] March 24, 1893. Grace and Harry's engagement has been settled and Phebe is pleased. |
