Twenty-four letters and postcards. [letter #1] Jan 31. Henry is on shipboard on way to Europe [#3] Feb 14: Quartered in dormitory at The American Hospital of Paris with some 30 other Americans. Receives mail at American Ambulance, Neuilly-sur-Seine. Henry describes the war situation, the wounded, treatment of prisoners, the daily life which goes on in France, the Ford ambulances in action, his work activity, the need for more recruits from America, a few weeks vacation in Paris. [#11] Undated postcard with a map of Alsace, "Les Cartes du Front": "Sending enclosed some photos taken by me with a small Kodak purchased by a present from Peg. Some of them quite good I think, and all printed by my own hand. Large Kodak too expensive & particularly conspicuous, as all cameras are prohibited." [#12] May 25. "Edith Wharton passed through here a week ago, but was travelling incognito." |
