Twenty-one letters, most written from The Homestead by RBS's Aunt Eliza. She reports news about the family - Aunts Carrie and Phebe, Uncle Joshua, Cousin George among others; often mentions RBS's siblings and mother and the activities of many acquaintances. [letter #3] Dec 11, 1864: "..our Christmas tree will be ready the Monday after Christmas day." "I suppose as you & Rutsen belong to cousin Mary's Class, you will go to her tree also." [#4] March, 1866: "Aunts Carrie & Phebe went to take tea with uncle this afternoon, and they had the pleasure of finding cousin George there....He told us a good deal about his travels in different parts of the world, and of the Indians he saw, going over the Rocky mountains."
