Seven letters from George Suckley to his wife sent to Rhinebeck, New York and Greenwich New York, in care of Joshua C. Sands, Robert Sands and The Rev. Garrettson. His letters are sent from Baltimore, New York, Alexandria and Greenwich. He describes his work and the people he meets as well as the weather, his health and advises his wife on hers. The family is always mentioned as are his plans to be back home. The construction of a new house in New York is reported in two 1804 letters. In an 1806 letter he reports on his son John and the marriage of Philip J. Schuyler to Miss Sawyer. In Alexandria, June 1807 he mentions his boarding house room has a full view of "the river Potomac on which is seated the hopes of America." |
