One manuscript box 14 folders of personal correspondence: Thomas Holy Suckley, husband Robert Bowne Suckley, son Catherine R. Suckley, daughter Mary Suckley, sister-in-law Mary Garrettson Grace Sands Hunt Phebe Bowne Hunt and others 8 folders of miscellaneous documents Correspondence begins before Catharine's marriage in 1850 to Thomas Holy Suckley. After their marriage he often writes from New York City. Catharine receives letters from her son Robert who is studying at the Hudson River Institute and then Wesleyan College. Her daughter Kittie writes from Brooks Seminary for Young Ladies. Much of the correspondence deals with family life and activities and classes at the childrens' schools. Letters from others report news of family and friends, including sympathy on the death of her first son Rutsen. Her last will is handwritten. There are recipes and medical directions. |
