Notebook with brown cloth cover, trimmed with narrow band of red leather around the edge. Inside front and back covers are decorated in red, blue and beige wavy design. Pencil holder on side. Elastic strap for closure. Inside on first blank page, upper left: "116 / R. B. Suckley, Chateau d'Oex / Suisse." Notes activities, particularly climbing, with friends Reuss, Alioth, Dobbs, Fremwell, Hill, Sandeman, Rivett-Carnac. Records his real estate business at home; Arthur's health. Robin is studying with Henry Walker at St. Moritz. Henry is at school at Konigsfeld. April 16, 1904 - Embarked from Le Havre April 23, 1904 - Arrived NY. Met by Harry Montgomery (HEM) and Alan. Went to HEM's place at 318 W. 78th St. April 25, 1904 - Harry and RBS to Poughkeepsie - dinner with Aunt Phebe at 2 Noxon St. "In New York, HEM and I bought Orient Buckboard automobile (gasoline) for 425. Lamp and horn brought it up to 433." "Instructed to send it up tonight on Saugerties boat." May 18, 1904 - Ordered a Columbia motor bicycle through Smillie & Co. of Rhinebeck. May 23, 1904 - Interviews with Pottier & stymus May 24, 1904 - Embarked with crated Columbia motor bike on Kaiser Wilheim. May 30, 1904 - Arrived; train to Paris July 21, 1904 - Family to Petites Dalles for vacation in rented villa Aug. 26, 1904 - Left Petites Dalles. RBS, Henry and Alioth took train to Le Havre. Aug. 27, 1904 - RBS and Henry embarked on the Savoie to New York arriving Sept. 2. |
