July 1: Mary Powell at 2 p.m. W. 42nd St. Rhinecliff motor boat across to [Rhinecliff.] $1. Packard waiting to take me home. / Found H.E.M. 2nd at house to stay over 4th. July 2: Picnic at Stoutenburgh Pond. All went except Nettie & I./ In P.M., 2 Astors bringing Willis & Huntington girls (2). Came to tennis here./ I dined at Wildercliff. / Began to smoke again. July 3: Daisy, Arthur & H.E.M. 2nd lunched with Hamersleys at Red Hook. / Cousin Margaret Tillottson buried in cemetery. / Two Wainwright me (nephews) came to lunch with us They returned to town in 3:23. July 4: Girls bathed in Fox Hollow Stream. / Arthur & Henry played tennis at Merritts. / Fireworks at Astors tonight. July 6: Helen Langdon arrived 2:02. / Edith Miller arrived 3:30 for tennis. / Mrs. A. Robers visit / Mrs. Aldrich visit / Miss Aldrich visit. / Telegraphed to Robbie to transfer his account to H.E.M. & Co. July 7: To town with H.E.M. in 5:32. / Gordon Hamersley in p.m. took Helen out in his auto. July 8: Received H.E.M. 4 won bet on Jeffries & Johnson prize fight. / Bought 6 shirts, 12 collars & 6 ties. Total 13.50. / Cards to Dobbs, Reuss, Beauclerk, etc. / H.E.M. & I dined at Racquet & taxied to Coney. July 9: To Rh [Rhinecliff] in 12:40 with the 2 H.E.M.s - uncle & nephew. / Tennis tournament begins at Merritts & Astors. July 15: New laundress arrived. July 18: Dinner. July 27: Grace my cousin has been seriously ill this afternoon. Dr. Goodell has been there hours. July 28: Daisy took me to Wager's for notorail services. Executed application to Am. Surety Co. for bond $26,000. to enable me to get some $14,000 out of Jersey Chancery which amount was my award for the seizing of some land on the heights by Jersey City (or W. Hoboken.) July 29: Newman & Wright* are to be examined today for chauffeurs' licenses at Poughkeepsie./ *Wright did not get notice and so did not go to Pok. |
