Small light gray notebook with "March 1915" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: 01, Mon. Daisy arrived bringing Peg & Ninon Newton with her 02, Tues: Ordered 2 grilles for library radiators from Tuttle, 76 Madison Ave. 03, Wed: Victor Livingston came to lunch. Took Daisy & our two visitors out in his auto in the afternoon / Gave John McCarthy some apple seed from very fine red & white apples, eaten on the SS France Jan. 1914 to plant 04, Thurs: Daisy, Peg & Ninon went to Kingston in A.M. / Made fire near old float, cut p. ivy, etc. 05, Fri: Daisy & Bettie left in 1:18 for christening of Brown baby. Gave Daisy 4. & fam. Ticket with 6 holes not punched / Made fire quite near dead elm S.E. of house, east of hickory tree, top of slope leading down to ruined "umbrella" seat. 08, Mon: Rev. Mr. Little came to tea; danced! / Cut ivy (poison) & wild grape vine from 4 to 6 near Indian rock. 13, Sat: Bought 10 fifteen watt bulbs from Dutchess Electric Lt. Co. / Bought 6 small fly traps from Decker Bros. / Arthur has sold his Stearns for 150. To Newman 13, Sat: Daisy lunched with the Dows / Saw Arthur at the Harvard Club. He took me around the block in his Carnation / Met H.E.M. at Grand Central. Had some raw oysters & veg. salad / Card from H.M.S. at Havre Mar 1st. Much rain, is putting together 2 Fords a day. 16, tues: Margaret Brauss, waitress on leaving, 30 & ticket to N.Y. / New waitress arrived in time to wait at luncheon / Bessie & Daisy went to Hebes / Bettie & I made fire near the "Pinxte Bloom." 19, Fri: A despondent letter from my cousin Grace Montgomery / Burned debris on cove shore near old float. Bettie & the donkey followed later by Miss Walker also came down. All but Jennie helped. Arthur arrived about 5:30 in his Carnation. Robin with Peg & Grace M. arr'd 6. / Ordered "Putnam's Handbook of Universal History" from Putnam Sons 2.50. 22, Mon: Daisy, Peg & Grace went to Kingston in morning. / Daisy, Bettie & Grace cleaned the cow spring of my childhood. Two frogs are living in it. 24, Wed: Elizabeth Lynch arrived at 3 to stay a few days / Rev. Little came to tea 25, Thurs: We are clearing up around the spring, at the cove, where the cows watered when I was a boy / Robbie arrived at 12:14 / Bird lecture at Town Hall by Mr. Abbott 26, Fri: In PM worked at the cove with the girls / Letter enclosing two ski photos to Dobbs / Arthur arrived at 3:02 / The family danced during the evening 27, Sat: Elizabeth L. spent the day as usual at Mansakenning. One of the water pipes there froze up last night. It melted of itself however / Robbie in Hup. took the girls to Pok. 29, Mon: H.E.M. & I lunched together at Eberling's - oysters ½ shell & black coffee after / At Racquet Cl, engaged 2 seats near aisle for Kreisler's concert on Apr. 3. |
