19 manuscript boxes of business correspondence, accounts and personal correspondence Correspondence, receipts, accounts, memos, notes, agreements, leases, deeds/indentures, property maps, bonds, affidavits, etc. Papers include Rutsen Suckley's work as a lawyer and as assistant to his father, George, until the latter's death in 1846. As oldest son, Rutsen then managed the finance and business of his siblings including properties in NYC, New Jersey, Rhinebeck, the Hudson Valley, Ohio and Pennsylvania. There are receipts for personal items such as boots, frock coats, books, wine, medicine; for work done for property and equipment maintenance; building materials; horse and carriage expenses; property taxes; rent received often in the form of wheat and hens. There is considerable information about individual tenants, including their names, locations of farms, lease agreements and terms. |
