Small light gray notebook with "December, 1913" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: December 1: Fiasac’s body was found yesterday on E. side of track, 2 poles south of our crossing. That is, his head & one forepaw. Robbie is sending his head to be mounted. 5: No lunch. / Biked to above Red Hook, 19.55 miles, 12 to 2 p.m. / Robbie went to Pok. in P.M. Saw Dr. Andrews & visited Helen Huntington. Saw Vincent A. there./ Bessie returned from town at 6:28. 6: Nummie arr. at 8:47. / Started on bike at 12:30. Broke down on Astor road. Rolled bike to Hub Garage, left it there & walked home. The nut had come out, loosening the bolt that holds the frame together. 7: Rained more or less all day. / Bessie & Robbie went to church in A.M. Our new rector, Mr. Little, officiated for the first time./ Nummie left for town in 4:59./ Robbie went to Huntington’s for tea. He saw only Helen & Vincent Astor. 12: Had second boiler started at 8 A.M. 13: To town in 7:56 / Letter from Chat. D’O. [Chateau d’Oex] / Yacht Club Xmas subsc. for employees 10. p’d. / Carnegie Hall at 2:30 Kreisler’s concert with Nummie & Arthur. / 6 o'clock train to Rhinebeck. We dined on train. 15: Robbie & I looked around the dynamo station. Found remains of an old wire fence on the East side of creek. 19: Twins’ holidays begin this afternoon & end Jan. 6, 3 p.m. 24: Eliz. Lynch arr. at 11:08 / H.E.M. & Grace arr. at 4:21 / HMS arr’d at 5:41 / Bessie, Bettie & Arthur arr. at 8:45, the latter bringing the new Scotch Terrier named Trossack, 6 mo. old. 25: Presents in gold: Daisy, Kath, Elizab., Nummie, Robin and Arthur, 15 each. / Cook, Laundress, Chamber M., 10 each / Newman, 10 / McCarty, 10 / Madison, Hueston, Shook, Martin, Flynn, Postman, 5 each / Wm. Wright, check 50. 27: Skied for an hour or so; not deep enough. / Dedication Astor window at 2 p.m. I attended. Went up in Hupp & walked back./ Talked with Wager. 28: Coldest last night was +4° / Skating & skiing Morton pond & hills N.E. of it. Best skiing I've had in America./ Nummie to town in 6:08. 31: Sent Wright’s affidavit to Wager to by typed & signed. / Robbie p’d me a small debt of 2.40 / Nummie, etc. arr’d at 8:47 / Midnight at Wildercliff / Money in hand 12.83 / This month Max 53 ½, Min 4. |
