Small light gray notebook with "July, 1914" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Family at Wilderstein and NYC. Excerpts: July 1: To town in 7:57 / Signed 3 yr lease of 41 E. 80th to Miss Comstock @3000. a year./ Executed trustee deed of Newark lots / Dined at Gr. Central / Home in 6:35. 2: As trustee, signed & mailed to Olin, Cl. & P. agreement to sell for 5500. to Pasquale Fattoruso 108’ x 100’ on Oliver St. Newark. 4: Mary Lee Hickman arrived at 6:01 / Ethel Merritt & Carr came to lunch / Biked around Crosby & Dows places / All of us except Bessie & Nummie went to the Astor’s for fireworks & a little dance. Home by 12. 7: Newman & Nummie & I spent morning & p.m. at boat house. Madison swept it out. Newman ran the motor, etc., etc. 9: Ellide with girls up on W. side & ret. on East bank, about 2 hours. / Vincent & Helen A. here 5 – 7. The former pl. tennis with Arthur./ Gordon H. took twins to Pok. in afternoon & dined here. / Nummie took Daisy & Mary Lee to Pok. in aft. / Arthur’s Stearns ran in p.m. 10: 12:38 to Pok. SS Wash. Irving to N.Y. / Mary Lee Hickman & Nummie left on 9:25 / Night at 41 E 80. Nummie & Robin arr’d around 11 p.m. 11: In conversing at 41 E. 80 about winter plans, Nummie was so excessively rude that I told him not to show up at Wilderstein until he had apologized. / Bkt - coffee, bluefish, potato; Lunch – cheese sandwich; Dinner – ice cream soda / In evening saw Rainey’s African Hunt movie. 12: To Staten Island & back In municipal ferry. 13: [on sheet of loose paper] RBS notes travel details to Big Indian & Winnisook Lodge via ferry, trolley, train and stage. 15: Marius, butler, left / New waitress, Mary Joy, arrived./ Arthur & 3 girls dined at Miller’s 18: Daisy, Kath, Eliz, Nummie & Arthur took Kath Miller to lunch at Lake Sepasco 19: Daisy, Bettie, Nummie & I in Ellide to north & home. About an hour. 21: In Ellide Nummie, Arthur & R.B.S. from 11:10 to 1:35 up Rondout Cr. To Eddyville./ Robbie’s address – Glen Springs Hotel, Watkins Glen, N.Y. 22: All family except Mamma & Robbie. Hup & Stearns. Started 12:47. Climbed Burger’s Hill, passed Wurtemburg - Pleasant Plains, lunched near Rowland, passed Long & Mud Pond, rowed on Sylvan Lake, thru Milan, Rock City, Rhinebeck. Reached home 4:45. 34.2 miles in all. Everybody enjoyed this trip very much. 25: Bessie, 3 girls with Arthur, left at 6:30 for N.Y. in A’s Stearns. They propose to stay at 41 E. 80 all Monday packing up everything for removal. 27: 7 o’cl. ferry; 7:38 train reaching Big Indian at 9:10. Climbed Slide Mt. |
