Excerpts: November 2: Bessie to Pok. in a.m. / Daisy attended Managers’ meeting at Holiday House./ Light rain began at 11 AM. 3: Victor Livingston lunched here. / Emmie Olin came to tea./ Arthur to town in 5 train. / H.E.M. to town in 6:40 train. 5: Placed 500 gals gasoline in tanks today @13 cts by Pok. dealer / The girls went to Red Cross meeting at Rh. / Agreed with Nummie to buy 10 steel com @40 at office of H.E.M. & Co. 7: Ch. Messiah Vestry 11 AM. Vincent [Astor] was present at Vestry meeting for the 1st time since his election more than a year ago. He brought me home after meeting on his way to play golf with Nummie at Staatsburg. 9: 190 ½ [RBS’s weight] / Letter from Dobbs at Folkstone / Elizabeth Lynch arr’d to stay with us. 10: To town in 8:05 / Rec’d fr. H.E.M.for gasoline sold to him 9.52 (at 14 cts the gal.) / Left Lynch trust release of mortgage at Olin, Clark & Phelps. / Card fr. & letter to Genève. / House Committee Sheltering Arms, 504 W 129 St. 4:30 P.M./ Watch at 12:10 -37" Advanced it to +23" / Sleeve bands .25, 1 pr. Socks 1., 1 pr. Socks .75 Above socks are English. / Oyster & bluefish dinner at Ho. Manh. [Hotel Manhattan] / Home in 7 PM. 11: Diocesan Convention 2 to 5:30. Rev. Saunders, Merritt & Miller also attended. / Smoked a segar. No more until Nov. 1, 1915. 12: At Convention from 9:30 to 1:50. Rev. Little for a little, Merritt & Miller for all the time after 10 A.M. / 3:15 Sheltering Arms meeting. Present Pres. Peters, John Peters, Langdon & I – Managers Sheltering Arms, 52 Beaver St, 3:15 P.M. 14: W. B. Dinsmore with children & tutor ran aground on the Swanny flat. Nummie & I tried to tow him off but failed. However we took the tutor & children down to their dock & Dinsmore’s boat floated soon after. 17: Rebuilding "wash" at the garage. / Our girls & Helen Miller to Staatsb’g for golf in P.M. 19: Began snowing about 7 AM / Cows & donkey moved over today. / Daisy, Bettie & I skied in p.m. About 4" of snow. Hardly enough & a little sticky. 20: Daisy, Peg & Nummie to N.Y. on 9:23 / Miss [blank] the governess left on the 5 o’clock. She throws up the job on account of neuralgia etc. / The hot water heating on piazza began today. / Has been mild today. 24: Moved float to a position south of slip entrance, in preparation to raise it into the boat hs for winter. / Trossack has not been home today. 25: Trossack arr’d from the East at 10:15 dragging a wire & a trap on his fore ankle. 28: Raised the motor of the launch to be carried to the garage for winter. / Daisy & I walked: Rupert’s – Dows – Fox Hollow road west to Wilderstein. |
