Small cream color notebook with "May, 1918" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: 02 Thurs: Called on Elizabeth Lynch at Mansakening./ Letter to Arthur giving him his place 59 on selective draft. / Letter to Bessie./ Had new asparagus from the garden at 5o'clock tea. 04 Sat: Letter from Ely & Co./ Net May rent 41 E.80 251.88 deposited in Rhinebeck Bank. / By telephone to Rhinebeck Bank bought a 1000 comp 4 ¼ Liberty Bond./ Letter to Robbie explaining about the state of Suckley Park condemnation and promising to send more as I receive them./ Letter (May 1) from Ely &Co stating that they had reported to Washington that during 1917 they had paid to me as rents 30,068.56. 05 Sun:. Gout in right elbow. Cannot button collar nor shave with right hand. 07 Tues: Daisy's letter says Robbie left Spartanburg on Friday on his way to France. It is expected that he may be in camp in this country for a month. / Wright to get barrel at Elizabeth Lynch early. / Cows, donkey and goat moved over to farm. 08 Wed: Cooler, wind changing. To bank in p.m. to draw 50 (p. cash) & get my 3 liberty III bonds. The later had not yet arrived. / Paid Mary Herrion , laundress, 1 month's wages due today 35. / Swallowed by mistake about a tablespoon of medical alcohol thinking it was sodium salicylate. Threw up all I could, drank water & a cup of coffee. Type wrote a letter to Kath.& H.E.M. 09 Thurs: To town in 8:08. Lunch alone at Eberlins. Watch at 2:15 +5"./ Bought 100 CCC @61. / Sheltering Arms meeting of trustees at 55 John St. at 3:15. Last meeting until Oct. Some talk about the bequest of 10,000 under the will of Mrs. Zimmerman. / U.S. Steel rose to above 107 after 1:00 today. / Submar. Boat is up to 20. Everything is up some. / Received $1000 from Viaduct Trust for III Liberty Bond issue coupon 4 ¼ for $1100 by cheque #27 on Empire Trust Co. for $1000 signed by me as trustee &payable to me as individual. / Deposited the above 1000 to my credit with HEM & Co 11 Sat: Telephoned to HEM & Co to buy for me a Liberty 4 ¼ coupon bond for 1000 at less than 98 ½. / Twisted my right ankle. Swollen and sore. / In p.m. Reggie attacked Trossach and Laddie joined in. Nearly broke the hoe over R's back in separating them. Turned my ankle again in above fight./ Bought 1000 Lib's 4 ¼ 983./ The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion published in 1873 by the Surgeon-General 's Office. 13 Mon: To town in 8:08. Drew 30 from HEM & Co. / Staley Insurance policy expires in 1919./ Lunched HEM at Eberlins./ Talked to Laurier who came in at 80 Broadway. His daughter is improving but she is still at the Lakewood Hospital./ At 719 Fifth Ave found that the House of Rest meeting of Trustees will be on next Monday, not this. Had a talk with Woodbury in which he explained very fully his son's Montgomery's condition and what lead up to it./ Saw Sophie for a few minutes./ To Pok. in 8pm / To Rh. in 11 pm. 16 Thurs: Kath. to town in 8:08. Gave ticket Rh. to Pok and fam. ticket Pok.& N.Y. Gave her, for Katie, envelope containing 30. Katie's wages for month.ending 8th inst./ Wright put up awnings. / M.M. Housekeeper 25 Church St. about sand of Beekman Farm. 17 Fri: Bessie visited Merritts and Zabriskies. 22 Wed: To village in Ford with Daisy & Bettie Dressmaking / I rec'd from Rh. Nat. Bank the 1000$ III 4 ¼% Liberty Bond. #235663 (see 6th inst.) / Gave Bessie 20 to pay Letty for month ending 29 inst./ Bessie went visiting in p.m./ Daisy & I in Ford to Rh,, then East, turning North to turn around; Pilgrims Progress join state road & back to Rh. & home, in evening. 23 Thurs: Rec'd Staley interest 6 months on bond and mortgage 37.50.Deposited in RB. / Celine 35. one month wages to May 18 as cook at 121 Madison Ave. Sent above by Daisy who went to town in 1:37 train. 25 Sat: Bettie, under Eliz. Lynch, sold flowers for R. Cross at Beekman Arms in afternoon./ Bessie & Bettie registered as voters at Rhinecliff in p.m. and continued to Rh to attend a varied performance at Town Hall for some charit. object. They arrived home about 9:40. / Rain & some thunder in evening./ Bessie and I walked the Ellerslie triangle thru both entrances, 2 Morton & 2 Suckley. 31 Fri: To town in 8:08. /Cleared up during the morning. / Had the French consul legalize my Surrogate's Certificate of Administration on H.M.S.'s estate. This is to get control of the deposit with Morgan, Harjes &Co. J.P. Morgan photographed the French death certificate for me in a most wonderful manner. / Lunched at Eberlin's. Check #4260 to myself $100./ Dinner buffet lower floor Grand Central. To Pok. in 8:00, from there in 11:00 home. |
