Small light gray notebook with "December, 1914" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: December 1: Nummie & I to town in 8:05 / Sent Nummie 5 on allowance acc’t. / Card to Beauclerk / Watch at 12, +13" / Home in 7 P.M. Found Bessie & new governess in train. 3: Bessie went to town in 9:33 / Daisy went to Kingston / Wrote to Mrs. Wells Van Steinberg (near mill) that I would sell the house & lot opposite the M.E. Church & Dr. Goodells for 6000. of which half could remain on mort. @ 5%. 5: Genoux arr’d at 4:25 6: Miss [blank] Hickman arr’d at 4:24 / Arthur left in 6:40. Charge him 1.51 for fam. Ticket 8: Miss Hickman left for N.Y., etc. at 9:23. 9: Nummie to town in 9:23 with Genoux. Charge him , HMS, 1.51 for use fam. ticket. Lent him 25./ Bishop 78 Wesleyan telephoned from Rhinecliff that he would like to see me. I sent for him, had him to lunch & sent him down to catch the 3:12 train north. He is running a kind of school for the mountaineers in the Blue Smoky Mts of E. Tennessee. / Kath & I walked around the circle, school house, Morton E. gate, through & home by Morton W. gate, 5:15 to 6:15 -- 3 miles. 12: Pd H.E.M. for 3 tickets to Kreisler concert this afternoon. / Bag lost the 10th is not at Gr. Central terminal. / Daisy & Peg joined me at 2 P.M. at Carnegie Hall. Had 3 places in Box 53. Kreisler was a little lame but played better than ever. / Got the 2 girls to subway 33rd St. & 6th Ave (en route for Hoboken & Morristown) at 4:50 P.M. / Stock exchange re-opened today under rules / At Yacht Club pd in 10. Xmas fund for employees. / Letter to Utica Station Master about my bag. / Met Bessie at Gr. Centr. We took 7 PM home. / Trossack was home. His left paw is still bandaged. 16: 9:33 to Pok., 10:30 to Lake George; 4 to Albany; 7:50 to Rh. 20: Daisy is 23 years old today. Gave her 23. ck. 23: River seems to be frozen tight / Peg and Eglinton Montgomery arr’d at 12:14 / Most of us skied in p.m./ Can see no drifting of the ice today. / Ther at 10 P.M. is 16°. Calm. 24: Grace arr’d at 12:14 / Snow began at 1 P.M., Ther. 22 / Letter to Munn & Co. 25: Bowne arr’d at 12:14 / Skiing A+ p.m. / Christmas presents: My children, 15. ea.= 90; 4 Montgomery ch., 10. ea. = 40; 4 women servants & Lettie, 5 ea. = 25; Newman, McCarty & Madison, 10. ea. = 30; Postal Carrier = 5; Wm. Wright = 50. [Total] 240. All in gold excepting Wright’s. 27: Nobody went to church. Nummie, Arthur, Bowne, I & Trossack walked over the river from our boat house in A.M. / Daisy, Peg, Kath, Eglinton & I skied on Morton & our slopes in P.M. 30: To town in 8:05. Drew $7500 from H.E.M. & Co & endorsed the check over to H. S. Ely & Co to pay W. Hoboken & J. City taxes of 1914. / Kreisler concert at Carnegie in P.M. / Home in 6:55. |
