Six letters from George Suckley to his wife sent to Rhinebeck and New York from Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia. He describes his work and the people he meets as well as the weather, his health and advises his wife on hers. He recommends travel and change of air is good. The family is always mentioned as are his plans to be back home. In Georgetown he dined with Mr. Foxall, who has been elected Mayor, and stayed as guest at this country residence. His travels have been extended due to the difficulty in securing funds from those who owe him money because of the economics of the time. In a letter of 1820 there is discussion of the Division of the Rutsen Estate properties between Catherine and her sister Sarah, desisted wife of Philip J. Schuyler. |
