Small cream color notebook with "January, 1920" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Several blank pages. RBS, Katharine Suckley and Grace Montgomery joined by Arthur Suckley in Europe. Excerpts: Jan. 2: A [Arthur] & I lunched at Castile Hotel in Cambon St. / All of us tea at 5 at Continental Hotel. Arthur brought a friend, very nice. The girls climbed the Arc de Triomphe. All to bed early. 3: Swiss Consul was satisfied with our passports as they were. / A cocktail with 2 of A's friends at Maxim's. A & I lunched at the Taverne near Madeleine. Dined at Gare de Lyon. / Train started at 9 p.m. We have a 1st class section to ourselves. Very cold however all night. 4: Lunched at Gare de Lausanne. 12:10 train to Montreux. 2:00 train to Chateau d'Oex. Telephoned to Rosat from Lausanne. Rosat sleigh met us at Chateau d'Oex. 10: K & G skied to Mme. Haldi's thru slush. Ret. [returned] in train. They did not use skis again. Returned them about 9 Feb. 11; The girls went to a movie, oppos. P.O.in evening. Heavy wind & rain all day & night. 16: The girls & Arthur took 8:56 train to Montreux. A. has an appointment with dentist for 1 p.m. The girls want to see Chillon & anything else they can take in. I am feeling better & expect a resumption of ski,etc. energy almost at once. The girls & Arthur arrived a little after 8 p.m. They saw Chillon thoroughly. 30: I thnk I'm better. Did not go out. |
