Scope & Content |
Page 1 - First paragraph of the diary "Rhinebeck House 1789 December 1st Flushed with delightful anticipations of a splendid winter. The Dancing Assembly - the Levy; Routs; Social parties. Female Friendships. Captivating prospects, to a heart mild and tenderly susceptible to the pleasures of sense. [?] to these enjoyments by custom, my nature viewed them with the most bewitching fondness. Absurd as it was, still in such avocations my every desire seemed to center a stranger to other Joys. Still the Phantom was not replete, nor could I name the deficiency." The remainder of the diary is mainly focused on her religion and her personal life. |
