Small light gray notebook with "June, 1917" printed on cover. Provides two lined pages for each day of the month. Excerpts: 02, Sat: Received official notice of Henry's death from French government through the State Dept. Washington. 03, Sun: Mamma, Daisy went to church / Miss Laura Delano came to tea. Also Victor Livingston. 05, Tues: Registration today for U. S. Army for all between 21 to 30 incl. / Robbie & Arthur both registered, the latter claiming exemption on account of physical disability (weight 106) / Daisy took her second lesson in canning - rhubarb / Daisy & Bettie worked in flower garden today 06, Wed: At Harvard Club saw Arthur & obtained a copy of the Harvard Alumni Bulletin of April 5 noting & describing my son's death at Salonika 08, Fri: Bessie worked in her vegetable garden weeding 13, Wed: Letter to Bessie from Galatti enclosing 5 pictures of grave & cemetery at Koritza, Albania / Mrs. Morton took tea with us. I gave her 2 Kodaks of Nummie of which one is for one of her daughters 14, Thurs: Started proceedings at surrogates to become administrator of Henry's (HMS) Estate with the aid of a lawyer named [blank] recommended by the surrogate. 15, Fri: H.E.M. told me of the engagement of his elder daughter Margaret to Rupert Anderson 19, Tues: Mrs. Rutherfurd (Alice Morton) died today after an operation. 23, Sat: Peg's fiancé arrived chez Elizabeth Lynch. We collected him at Poughkeepsie & delivered him at Mansakenning. 28, Thurs: Mrs. A. Rogers, Mrs. T. Dows with her daughter tea'ed here / Trossach had a severe fight with some animal. R. leg badly torn & the bone broken |
