Katharine seems to always of had an independent spirit, desiring to not have a chaperone, driving across the country alone, living apart from the family for all of her adult life. This comes across most clearly in the amount of time she spent in Europe, specifically Paris, Though she was born and died in Rhinebeck she spent little time at Wilderstein when compaired to her other siblings. In her father's letters to her as a young girl he strongly encourages her to visit home, and in her later years she declined to live in the old family house, prefering another house in Rhinebeck. |
